Trevino (aka Marcus Intalex) FACT Mix

Earlier this year we announced that Full Thought was looking after the publishing for Marcus Intalex and his house headed alter-ego Trevino. So it's with great excitement that we announce the release of Trevino's FACT Mix - being picked to compile a FACT mix highlights just how important Marcus's output is to electronic music at the moment, and it's certainly a great way to round off the year.

Here's what FACT had to say: "2012 has been a remarkable year for Trevino: ‘Chip’ was followed by the three-track Tactical Manoevre EP (both released on Martyn’s 3024 label), while releases also arrived on Ben Klock’s Klockworks, [Nakedlunch], The Nothing Special and Kaye’s own Revolve:r label. Perhaps Kaye’s finest moment yet as Trevino, the sinister ‘Under Surveillance’, found a home on Apple Pips."  (link)

Natural Self - Red Wire Blue Wire (download)

Full Thought are very pleased to announce the return of producer, vocalist and DJ, Natural Self. To introduce the arresting new sound of Natural Self, ahead of his revelatory fourth album, he has made “Red Wire Blue Wire” available for free download, premiered by Clash. Use the widget below to listen and download the tune.

Slated for release in Spring 2013 on Tru Thoughts, the new LP brings a truly striking change of direction for Natural Self as he takes on the role of singer-songwriter fully for the first time, alongside his well honed production skills, and his trademark killer way with a rhythm; laying himself bare with a contemporary and immersive new sound. Beat-heavy and replete with synths aplenty, this is electronic music with warmth, energy and heart, a sense of being at once futuristic and nostalgic as it explores themes of technology, the environment, the passing of time and our place in the world.

Olly Knights (Turin Brakes) - Master Rights

We are extremely pleased to announce that Tru Thoughts/Full Thought Publishing will be representing the master rights for Olly Knight's new solo material. Famous for being one half of the indie pioneers Turin Brakes, Olly has just released his first solo effort called 'If Not Now When?'.

Here's some words from the man himself:
"I started thinking back to my early days of multitrack recording as a teenager, the utter joy of building up sonic worlds on a cassette four track machine, with all the sounds of my domestic existence caught up in them, the airplanes, the lawn mowers, the buzz of the fridge and the kids coming home from school outside, breaking through into songs, barely audible but there.

I re-listened to a lot of vinyl LP’s, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake & Elliot Smith to name a few, all the records that seemed to have that special rare and original atmosphere that stands out against the polished din, at least to me."

You can preview some tracks and purchase the album (DL/LP) over at the Olly Knights Etch Shop. You can follow Olly Knights on twitter too @OllyKnights.

You can also watch a documentary about making the album (below).

Marcus Intalex / Trevino

Full Thought Publishing is extremely pleased to announce the signing of Drum 'n' Bass veteran and Electronic producer Marcus Intalex - Under both his guise as Marcus Intalex (Drum 'n' Bass / Soul:r) and Trevino (House / Techno). With such a range of influences and styles, Marcus is an extremely welcome addition to the roster and we look forward to working closely with him and pushing his music into new avenues. We are extremely pleased to announce that the Trevino guise has also been nominated for 'Best Producer' by DJ Mag in their annual awards, read about that over HERE.

Below you can  listen to both guises and read about them, if you wish to hear some more material then please email  mail@fullthought.co.uk  and we will direct you to a playlist of popular material.

Marcus Intalex
Both as an artist and a DJ, Marcus Intalex represents the forefront of soulful, musical drum & bass. Heading up the legendary Soul:r label, he has worked with artists such as Calibre and S.P.Y and and always sought to release quality music with lasting appeal. Marcus's DJ sets have earned him a reputation as a tastemaker, not afraid to test crowds with a fresh high quality selection from across the spectrum of drum & bass. A passion for techno has always run deeply through his music, demonstrated this year by his success as an artist in the house and techno fields as Trevino. He represents Soul:ution with residencies in Manchester and at London's Fabric plus a radio show for Red Bull Music Academy. In 2012 Marcus is forging new musical frontiers both with his solo Drum and Bass releases, Soul:r the label, Soul:ution the club night, and now as Trevino.

Trevino

"In order to make oneself better, stronger, more accomplished,
you have to put yourself into new situations.”
This is the sentiment of hydra-headed veteran producer, promoter and label boss, Marcus Intalex, on yet another of his musical incarnations – Trevino – a new and fresh mononym, functioning as an outlet for his 130bpm-range house-techno creations, which - just as he has always done as an artist - go their own way, regardless of expectation or reaction.

The Trevino guise has been nominated for 'Best Producer' in the 2012 DJ Mag Awards. A prestigious achievement for the project and one that is certain to propel the music to new audiences and platforms.
(you can vote HERE)

Marcus always retained a deep connection to house and techno. Heavy influence came from across the water as records by the late eighties Detroit sound of the Belleville Three, Carl Craig, Underground Resistance, and Drexiya filtered through to the Manchester record shops and onto Marcus’ turntables. As Trevino, this influence is clear throughout the body of his work. With one eye on his roots and one set firmly looking forward, he has managed to carve out a sound that is entirely relevant today, as he himself admits, “[Trevino’s] influenced by everything I’ve been into over the years. Everything I’ve ever believed in.”

You can stream a Trevino DJ set @ Exit Festival over HERE too.

Alice Russell, Heatbreaker single OUT NOW

Heatbreaker is the first single to be lifted from Alice Russell's upcoming fifth album. The exciting new single highlights the crisp, cutting edge production and eclectic influences which nestle alongside a love of vintage soul at the core of Alice Russell’s style, a sound honed over the years with co-writer and producer TM Juke. The perfect introduction to the new LP, the track sees Alice at her best, mixing soul with intoxicating gospel overtones. “It is a broken hearted love song about the end of a relationship”, Alice explains. “it’s about that time when you’re just emotionally exhausted, you know you just have to let it go, you are resigned to it all being over.”

The “Heartbreaker” video stars long-time Alice fan Harry Shearer, the Hollywood actor and cult comedy hero known for roles including Spinal Tap’s Derek Smalls and many voices in The Simpsons, and for his long running radio show on LA’s KCRW. Click here to watch the Heartbreaker video.

Quantic and Alice on Revenge (ABC)

The hit US drama Revenge is in it's second season now, it's currently airing in America and recently used Quantic and Alice Russell's Magdalena in one of it's scenes. Season 2 Episode 4 uses the sweet soul and blues of Magdalena to soundtrack a minute long scene at a baby shower party. For anyone unfamiliar with the show, here's a brief synopsis of the program to interest you:

"Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) is new to the Hamptons. She's met some of her wealthy neighbors, has made a few new friends and seemingly blends into the town. But something is a little odd about a young girl living in a wealthy town all on her own, and the truth is that Emily isn't exactly new to the neighborhood. In fact, this was once her old neighborhood, until something bad happened that ruined her family and their reputation. Now Emily is back, and she's returned to right some of those wrongs in the best way she knows how – with a vengeance."

For anyone in the USA you can watch the episode here, UK viewers will have to wait a while - but E4 will be showing the second series in 2013.

Magdalena is also the second single to be lifted from the Quantic and Alice Russell album, set to be released as a digital download and a LTD edition 12" vinyl, keep you eyes peeled for a release in early 2013. You can listen to Magdalena below:

Los Miticos Del Ritmos (new video)

Los Miticos Del Ritmo (The Mythics of Rhythm), is the hip shaking, dancefloor quaking cumbia band from Will ‘Quantic’ Holland and his studio band. Released on Soundway Records earlier this year, Los Miticos Del Ritmo made the record in Will’s home studio in Cali, his approach was to produce an album with the aesthetics of 1960s tropical recordings made in Colombia and the Caribbean. Careful attention made to preserve the analogue quality of the recording at every stage.

"The idea of the record was to record something that sounded like a lost cumbia classic," said Will in a recent interview with Soundway "Like something dug out of a Barranquilla basement after decades of humidity and dust."

The album features a number of covers, of bands such as Queen and Michael Jackson, along with a collection of original tracks which Full Thought are pleased to publish. Drop us an email if you interested in using any of the Los Miticos Del Ritmo originals - mail@fullthought.co.uk

Menagerie, the new project from Lance Ferguson

Menagerie is the spiritual jazz project from the prolific producer, songwriter and guitarist Lance Ferguson, best known for his eclectic and highly acclaimed work under the Lanu and The Bamboos monikers, and here venturing out to explore new musical terrain. A true ensemble project, on which Lance takes a back seat in performance – soloing only once and otherwise letting his Menagerie do their thing – the album was recorded with the assistance of long-time production partner and engineer John Castle. On the album they have inherited the sound of some of the classic music of Harry Whitaker, Gary Bartz, McCoy Tyner, Weldon Irvine and the labels Tribe, Strata East and Black Jazz. But far from being simply a 1975 time capsule, this project is pushing forward; songs like The Chosen sound like a live jazz take on some of the club music experiments of the 21st century producers who have been inspired by Ayers, Mizell and the like.

The first album, ‘They Shall Inherit’ is out on Tru Thoughts in December 2012 on CD, vinyl and digital; featuring a guest appearance from the legendary US jazz/funk vibraphonist Roy Ayers, the album has gained early support from the authority on all things leftfield, Gilles Peterson (Worldwide/BBC 6Music).

Wrongtom meets Deemas J album out today

The day in finally upon us, Wrongtom and Deemas J's 'In East London' is out today on Tru Thoughts. The essential reggae, dancehall and dub fuelled LP has a deep, fresh and bouncing vibe that pays homage to the culture and sound that first got them both hooked back in the ‘80s.

Opener “Old Time Stylee” sets the scene, with Deemas J telling the story of how he started out in jungle soundclashes and dancehalls, and paying tribute to the Labyrinth club – the original hub of Caribbean culture that is now, in Tom’s words “the site of some soulless new build flats, the sanitary scourge which for many is laying waste to dirty old London’s rich rhythmical topography”. The overriding upbeat, celebratory tone of the album is reflected in the artwork, its themes captured in fine style by legendary illustrator Tony McDermott, who also created the artwork for ‘Duppy Writer’, and historically was responsible for the look of legendary reggae and dancehall label Greensleeves; his famous cartoon covers becoming synonymous with dub records by Scientist and Mad Professor in the early ‘80s.

So, drop the needle and come join the party as Wrongtom meets Deemas J… in East London.

Yannah Valdevit - 'Equilibrium' OUT NOW

Yannah Valdevit's ‘Equilibrium’ is out today on Tru Thoughts; it is the debut solo LP from Croatian singer, songwriter, producer and pianist Yannah Valdevit, co-produced by long-time collaborator and mentor Zed Bias.

Yannah takes an inventive approach to song structure, using her voice in unconventional and multi-layered patterns – another instrument in the mix alongside cutting edge beats, jazz inflections, melodic hooks and lush string arrangements. The emotive style nods to the Balearic sound she perfected in a previous incarnation as part of Eddy Meets Yannah (who released three successful albums on Compost between 2003 and 2010). With UK garage and dubstep pioneer Zed Bias (aka Maddslinky) on board, it would be easy to assume the killer basslines and beats on ‘Equilibrium’ were his work; in fact, Yannah – a highly in-demand producer in her own right – built this sound from the ground up. While the man like Bias donated his legendary beat-making skills to two tracks on the album, his main role was to add that magic touch with a nuanced and soulful mix-down at his Manchester studio.

Buy it now from iTunes, Amazon, Juno or direct from the Etch Shop.

Full Thought Publish all of the Equilibrium album, so get in touch if you have any requests: mail@tru-thoughts.co.uk

Anchorsong: 'Darkrum / Hit The Bottom' Release

Anchorsong's new digital single, Darkrum/Hit The Bottom, is out today. It's the second single to be lifted from Japanese electronic artist Anchorsong’s debut album ‘Chapters’, highlighting a standout track alongside exclusive brand new material and remixes. The single has recieved support from Fact Mag, John Kennedy (XFM) and Hugh Stevens (Radio 1).

With an unshakable melodic hook, overlaid in unusual instrumental textures, “Darkrum” is an atmospheric and suspenseful track that shows how Anchorsong’s diverse influences, from classic heavy rock to glitchy electronica and dark melodic pop, can fuse into something entirely new – and has proven to be one of the most popular cuts on the LP. On this single it is given the remix treatment by exciting UK producers Kidkanevil (who has recently produced for Foreign Beggars) and Throwing Snow (Ho Tep/Local Action) for a fresh injection of cutting edge flavour, and a brand new track, “Hit The Bottom”, is also unveiled.

New Hidden Orchestra track

Last week we told you the exciting news that Hidden Orchestra will be releasing their sophomore album, well today the team at Line Of Best Fit have premiered the first piece of material from the album. The track is called Vorka and will be released as a AA side with Spoken on 10th September. Here's what TLOBF had to say about it:

"Tru Thoughts’ next project fits nicely into this space. Hidden Orchestra are an Edinburgh group that cribs from the handbooks of jazz, trip-hop (bear with us), and contemporary classical composition to produce a hazy, uncanny sound that owes as much to The Avalanches as it does to the 20th Century jazz cannon.

‘Vorka’ is a suitably cinematic introduction to the band’s second album. With tape-bend wobbles and a theremin-esque saw hook, it’s a disorienting wend through a faded-film world of spectre-filled forests – and we’re happy to premiere it here today." (Line Of Best Fit - Link)

New Hidden Orchestra album, 'Archipelago'

Full Thought are delighted to announce the imminent second album from Hidden Orchestra. Entitled ‘Archipelago’, the album will be released on Tru Thoughts on the 1st October on CD, digital and premium vinyl.

The core quartet of Hidden Orchestra is formed around the duelling drum kits, percussion and electronic pads of drummers Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, completed with the piano and violin of Poppy Ackroyd and Acheson’s bass and original samples. Their star has risen steadily since the release of ‘Night Walks’, with a genuinely organic buzz building as word has spread about their intricately crafted yet viscerally emotive and energetic sound; complemented by the highly in-demand live show which they have toured through more than 20 countries, in addition to tour support slots for acts including Bonobo.

Quantic and Alice storm through 2012

Quantic and Alice Russell's 'Look Around the Corner' is continuing to storm through 2012 with success after success. After being released in April the album has had a huge amount of support accross the board. This month iTunes included it in their 'Best of 2012 so far' list alongside Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sandé, Alabama Shakes and Bruce Springsteen. Lead single 'Look Around the Corner' was placed on the Radio 6 Music playlist and has had extensive support from DJs such as Lauren Laverne (BBC Radio 6), Giles Peterson (BBC Radio 6), Huey Morgan (BBC Radio 6) and Jamie Cullum who invited them to do a Maida Vale session for his BBC Radio 2 show. State side the support has been flooding in too, after a string of successful shows at SXSW the band took themselves on a US tour, which included sold out LA shows and a studio session for KCRW (which you can watch here).

The sound of this record mixes sweet soul and blues with overtones of folk and gospel, and the inimitable swing of Quantic’s world-renowned outfit the Combo Bárbaro.
