Oystah Card in Mojo's Top 10 Tracks of 2013

This month's copy of Mojo includes their annual rundown of the best albums and tracks of the year, and in brilliant taste they have placed Mark Professor's Oystah Card at number 4 in the top 10 tracks. The rousing dancehall anthem is placed between David Bowie, Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys and Disclosure. Oystah Card is an ode to London’s sprawling public transport system, taking you on a bumpy journey across town, through tubes and down bus lanes til the Prof winds up at Wrongtom’s studio where he wrote the final verse on the spot.

Mojo aren't the only ones praising the track, these industry experts also jumped in:

“As a card carrying member and a bass-line defender I can highly recommend Mark Professor’s Oystah Card....Top Up!” Don Letts (BBC 6Music)

"An original, unique flavour." David Rodigan (BBC 1Xtra)

“Sweet Smiley Culture style celebration of modern mobility.” John Kennedy (Xfm)

Full Thought publish this infectious reggae hit, and we will continue to publish further releases from Wrongtom's imprint Rongorock. Get in touch if you're interested in using the track: mail@fullthought.co.uk

Nostalgia 77 Ready New Material

Nostalgia 77, aka Ben Lamdin, is set to release his new album, ‘A Journey Too Far’, on 10th February 2014 via Tru Thoughts Records. The fifth studio LP under the Nostalgia 77 name finds the hugely respected producer, composer, songwriter and guitarist further developing his creative partnership with the beguiling German singer Josa Peit, as well as featuring additional vocals from Jeb Loy Nichols (Island). There's super-upfront album pre-orders available now, head to iTunes and receive an instant download of the first single “An Angel With No Halo”, which is officially out on 9th December. You can also get a limited edition bundle (Signed LP, CD, Postcard and Exclusive Song Manuscript) on the Etch Shop.

NEW SIGNING: Werkha

Full Thought are very pleased to announce the signing of Werkha, the project of musician and producer Tom A. Leah. After a big year in which his reputation has swiftly spread, this rising talent has now signed to Tru Thoughts and is putting the finishing touches to a clutch of new tunes to be released in 2014.

Since Werkha unleashed his debut ‘Cube & Puzzle’ EP on Cool Kid Music, in September 2012, the release has become something of an underground sensation, enjoying airplay throughout Europe, most notably from Gilles Peterson - who included one of his tracks on Brownswood Bubblers 10.

Hailing from Manchester, Leah began feeding his musical passions with classical, folk, and jazz music as a youngster. After leaving the bricks of Manchester for the sticks of Cumbria, a subsequently well-travelled childhood exposed him to a vibrant landscape of varied musical styles. This has clearly been manifested in the sound he has harnessed as Werkha. If you have yet to sample the delights, expect to hear an infectious fusion of Afrobeat, bass, house, jazz, funk and soul, bound together and brought bang up to date through contemporary electronic production that never stands still.

It’s important to switch tempos around, keep things moving, and bring something different to everyone”, Leah enthuses.

Werkha cites physical instrumentation, and his own live recordings, as the essential ingredient that gives his sound its consistent energy and unique identity. More recent productions further explore this live instrumentation and point towards a more layered sound that is set to characterise future works. Through all this, Werkha retains the electronic contiguity that led to ‘Cube & Puzzle’ ruffling the feathers of so many luminaries of the dance world.

With a successful 2013 under his belt, and a new label base, watch this space for the rise and rise of Werkha.

The Bamboos' Fever In The Road - OUT TODAY (AUS)

Today marks the release of The Bamboos sixth album 'Fever In The Road' in Australia and New Zealand. The album showcases the band's innate ability to create infectious and melodic soul with a flourish of pop. While still retaining the feel good nature that has been a staple of their music, The Bamboos have adopted darker elements to their music in this release, with densely layered strings, organs, synths and guitar to add depth to the music. Explaining the new album, Lance Ferguson states that "“I always want to make a better record, a different record. The Bamboos had their roots in certain genres but now it's been blown wide open. Now it feels like we can go in many directions...our direction...". The album is set to be released by Sony in Europe and Nettwerk in the US, Canada and Mexico early next year.

This album follows on from the band’s breakthrough 2012 album ‘Medicine Man’, which garnered them three ARIA Award nominations (Best Independent Release, Best Urban Album & Best Live Act), and saw the single “I Got Burned” feat. Tim Rogers reach #54 in Triple J’s Hottest 100.

Full Thought publish all of the Bamboos back catalogue and are extremely pleased to be publishing the new release too, if you're interested in using any of the material then please get in touch - mail@fullthought.co.uk

Quantic's Muevelo Negro / Nanguita - OUT TODAY

Today marks the release of 'Muevelo Negro / Nanguita', a new single from Quantic, always a cause for excitement among the intrepid followers of dance music’s worldly evolution. On this new material, prolific and influential producer/musician Quantic collaborates with Colombian singer Nidia Góngora (who also features in his Combo Bárbaro and Ondatrópica groups) for a progressive and experimental take on the Pacific music of Colombia. Dance led and rhythmically complex, this modern take on a folkloric tradition brings a deep and cutting edge club sound.

Both songs here are original compositions and direct collaborations between Quantic and Nidia Góngora. The use of a female vocal chorus, percussion from the region, and a Marimba accompaniment, adds to the colour of the sound and tips it more towards a pacific sound palette.

These two songs are a taste of the sound that Quantic and Nidia Góngora are currently exploring in the development of her upcoming debut solo album. Góngora’s songwriting talent, live presence and truly distinctive voice have made her a rising star.

Quantic is currently putting the finishing touches to a new solo album for Tru Thoughts. A hugely anticipated release, this upcoming LP will be his first studio album under the ‘Quantic’ name in over six years, following an experimental period which has borne various commercially and critically successful projects including Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro, Ondatrópica and of course the 2012 Quantic and Alice Russell collaborative opus ‘Look Around The Corner’.

Peshay's Generation EP - OUT TODAY

It's landed, new music from the legendary Peshay is now out for your listening pleasure. Following a string of celebrated releases for the likes of Island and Metalheadz, drum ‘n’ bass legend Peshay turns his midas touch to live funk, jazz and tropical compositions in a vibrant new direction. The “Generation EP, out now, lifts the lid on three tracks ahead of the full album of the same name, which follows in December.

EP opener, “Seville”, brings a carnivalesque, Latin-inspired sound; at seven-plus minutes, and with strong instrumental hooks, punchy production and a stripped back simplicity it is an out-and-out party tune. Coming over like a lost ‘70s film soundtrack, “Midnight Express” takes things in a decidedly funk-fuelled direction; cutting together archive session recordings from live musicians at various times, Peshay has managed to create the suspenseful, driving frisson of a tight group of players jamming live and in-the-moment. “Kickin’ It With The Piano Trio” is a live, expressive freeform jazz jam that spirals into a snaking, swinging groove with propulsive drums. The impeccable musicianship comes care of Munich-based funk/jazz group Tounion, whom Peshay approached with collaboration in mind after hearing them in a club and being blown away.

Full Thought are extremely please to be publishing this new material for Peshay so get in touch if you're interested in using any of it - mail@fullthought.co.uk

You can go and grab the EP now from all good digital stores including:
